Minister of Social Affairs Stumbles on Corruption, Gde Siriana: Needs OTT and enforced the death penalty HarianUmmat.com ■ Committing a criminal act of corruption in the midst of a disaster such as the Covid-19 pandemic currently has a very serious threat: the death penalty. "The threat of the death penalty can be carried out against those who commit criminal acts of corruption in times of national disasters, social disasters, and so on," said KPK Deputy Chairman, Nawawi Pomolango, at the KPK building, South Jakarta, on Friday (4/12). This means that the Minister of Social Affairs and 4 other suspects who are suspected of committing a criminal act of corruption related to the provision of social assistance packages for food packages in handling the Covid-19 pandemic, will have the opportunity to receive this punishment. "Yes, it could (demand the death penalty). In accordance with Article 2 paragraph 2 of the Corruption Act," said KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri, on Saturday (5/12). The Director of Indonesia Future Studies (INFUS), Gde Siriana Yusuf, considered the death penalty threatening. Gde Siriana emphasized that all echelon 1 officials must sign a statement that they are willing to be sentenced to death if they commit corruption. "Just agree. All echelon 1 officials and the level to the minister and president, as well as the head of the agency, have the signature 'Willing to be sentenced to death if corruption' at the time of inauguration," said Gde Siriana, Sunday (6/12). This is because, according to Siriana, the internal prevention mechanism has so far proved ineffective in suppressing corrupt practices of high-ranking officials. "A rotten system actually makes corruption even more rampant. Because the sub-systems protect each other. It needs OTT and the death penalty to be deterred," he said.
